Some Suggestions & A Preview
A roundup of recommended reads and a sneak peek at what's coming next
The past few weeks have been a blur. Two weeks ago I was finishing up a class on 1 Corinthians. Last week I was catching up on work for my biblical theology class and some personal tasks. Needless to say, I haven't had much time to write.
So, this week I'd like to recommend a couple of posts that I have enjoyed reading. At the end of this post I'll also include a preview of a series that I will be writing soon.
If you haven't yet, I highly recommend subscribing to my wife's Substack (With a Word). I may be biased, but her devotionals and counseling thoughts are top-notch.
Here's a link to something that she and I worked together on last summer:
One of my good friends from college writes Relearning Faith (another publication I highly recommend). He will soon begin a series through the book of Haggai. Although it is likely unfamiliar to you (as it is to me), this minor prophet is one that we still need to study today. Like the rest of Scripture, it is profitable today and speaks to many of our needs.
In a recent post, my friend wrote about why we need Haggai. I highly encourage you to read it (both the article and the book, of course)!
Coming up soon, I will begin a series through 1 Corinthians. I was personally challenged and encouraged by so much as I studied through Paul's epistle to the Corinthians this past spring. He addresses many issues with the Corinthian church that we still struggle with today.
I have already posted some of my writings on 1 Corinthians. Below you can find one of my posts from back in March on Paul's means and manners in gospel ministry.
Paul's Gospel Mannerisms
Currently, I am studying for a Master of Divinity from Maranatha Baptist Seminary. I have already been so blessed by the courses that I have taken and can't wait for more! This Spring, I am taking Exposition of First Corinthians. This letter to the Corinthians is incredibly relevant for our day and age.
In the next week or two, you will receive a post titled "Why We Need First Corinthians" (a post that is inspired by my friend's post on Haggai). From there, we will dive into the book.
As I study for and outline this series, I would like some feedback from y'all. There are a few ways I could approach 1 Corinthians. I could go chapter by chapter (although some of the chapter divisions aren't the most helpful). I could also outline it as though I would a sermon series, largely going paragraph by paragraph. I could also take it issue by issue, as Paul spends time throughout this letter dealing with roughly nine issues that the Corinthian church was struggling with. Of course, I may adopt a blend of all three options, but I'd love to get your feedback! You can vote for your preferred method in the poll below.
As always, thank you for taking the time to read! If you would like to subscribe to receive future posts, click the link below.
